Biography
Professor Joy Wu is the Gerald M. Reaven, MD Professor of Endocrinology, Chief of the Division of Endocrinology and Vice Chair of Basic Science in the Department of Medicine at Stanford. She is a board-certified endocrinologist who specializes in treating osteoporosis and other bone and mineral diseases. She has a special interest in optimizing skeletal health for those at risk of bone loss from cancer therapies. She has served on expert panels and guideline committees for the American Society for Transplantation and Cellular Therapy, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, and the Endocrine Society.
Prof. Wu directs a basic and translational research program that focuses on skeletal development and the bone marrow hematopoietic niche. Her laboratory is currently studying stem cell therapies for bone formation, and the prevention of cancer metastases to bone (joywulab.stanford.edu). She has been honored with awards from the NIH Director’s New Innovator Award, the Endocrine Society, the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research, and the Mary Kay Foundation. She has served on the Board of Directors for the Endocrine Society and the Council of the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research, and she is currently Chair of the 2026 Bones and Teeth Gordon Research Conference and Vice President of Advances in Mineral Metabolism.
